New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Tuesday announced that his administration has formally adopted the police rules introduced in 2016 that more clearly define the state's “justifiable need” standard for issuance of concealed-carry permits.

Unlike most of the country, New Jersey has a history of unreasonable standards for issuing concealed-carry permits, along with other extremely restrictive laws that affect the state’s law-abiding citizens. Christie’s newly-adopted rules allow New Jersey officials to consider evidence of “serious threats” that are not directed specifically at a person when they consider applications for handgun carry permits.

Not unexpectedly, anti-gun New Jersey lawmakers immediately vowed to fight the new rule. According to a report at USnews.com, Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto called Christie's move “an affront to the state constitution, our democratic process and public safety.”

NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action is urging New Jersey gun owners to contact Gov. Christie at (609) 292-6000 and thank him for supporting New Jersey citizens’ constitutional right to self-defense.
