Georgia Teen Shoots Gunman Who Was Attempting Home Invasion

posted on June 30, 2017

Malik Hyatt and his sister were sitting in their apartment last Monday morning when suddenly there was a commotion at the front door. The 19-year-old looked through the peephole and saw a strange masked gunman, who was trying to kick in the door.

Malik calmly told Taffany, his 22-year-old sister, to hide in her room. He then grabbed a firearm and went back to the door. As the pounding relentlessly continued, Malik fired through the door twice, striking the would-be intruder, later identified as Eric Ransom, 22.  Investigators found Ransom dead on the front stoop with a T-shirt covering his face and a handgun laying at his side.

Police quickly labeled the shooting “justifiable homicide,” as the suspect was unmistakably attempting a forcible entry. DeKalb police Lt. Lonzy Robertson told WFTV-9, “In home invasions, you never know what the suspect’s motives are. Maybe it’s money. Maybe the victim had something they wanted.”
