Is their storage scheme a gun control fantasy, or a malicious move against lawful gun owners?

Two Democrat senators from Connecticut have introduced a federal gun storage bill that would require gun owners to secure their firearms in a way that would allegedly prevent unauthorized users from accessing the guns. The legislation, by Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, comes in the wake of the death of Ethan Song, 15, of Guilford, Conn.

Of course, gun owners and non-gun owners can agree with the general premise of responsible gun storage, but they disagree on how to achieve it, since many proposed laws would render firearms completely useless for self-defense purposes.

“We reject government mandates on specific methods of storage because those fail to recognize the unique circumstances of individuals and families,” stated Catherine Mortensen, NRA spokesperson.

She added that “many factors must be considered when deciding where and how to store guns.” Every situation is different, she noted, and that should be part of the consideration.
