America's 1st Freedom Managing Editor Mel Dixon joined up with the NRA's Shooting Illustrated to feature in a segment of their "I Carry" series.

In it, she tells us about the Kimber Micro 9 Rapide (Black Ice) in a DeSantis Slim-Tuk holster, along with a Benchmade Mini-Griptilian pocketknife.

"Concealed carry is trickier for me than many other people because I’m only 5 feet tall and 110 pounds. So, the first thing I consider with any gun is its size. This Kimber Micro 9 Rapide in Black Ice, however, is small enough at 4 inches tall and 6 inches long for me to conceal it with the help of the DeSantis Slim-Tuk holster," says Dixon.

I Carry is a series that showcases firearms, holsters and accessories that work for daily-carry. Shooting Illustrated has shown us dozens of viable options and now, Dixon lends her experience to a fellow NRA publication.

You can find the full I Carry feature from Shooting Illustrated here.

As for the Micro 9 Rapide, it is one sharp-looking 9 mm concealed-carry pistol that is absolutely worth showing off. You can read America's 1st Freedom's full review of this show-worthy firearm here.

Gun Skills | Press Check

Back when I was a new gun owner, I drilled in a habit of checking to be sure my firearm was unloaded, which was also a terrific opportunity to work on gun-handling skills like racking the action and activating the controls.

No More Tax on Suppressors!

When President Donald Trump (R) signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB) into law on July 4, 2025, he scheduled the end of the burdensome $200 excise tax imposed on suppressors, short-barreled firearms and “any other weapons” as defined by the National Firearms Act (NFA). That end came on January 1.
