If there is one theme we see over and over in our daily quest for Armed Citizen stories, it is senior citizens saving their own lives with the use of firearms, despite what some in the media would have you believe. Here’s another such case.

According to local police, a senior citizen was a guest at a home in Washington County, Mo., and was sitting at the dining room table eating lunch when a truck pulled up close to the house. Two men jumped out and began hitting and kicking the front door, trying to break it down.

“He had a safety chain that was securing the door shut and the door came open a little ways with the security chain catching it,” Washington County Sheriff’s Department Cpt. Zach Jacobsen told the Daily Journal. “At that point he has the firearm in his hand and he points it and fires a shot, which he describes as a warning shot.” Jacobsen added: “When we arrived we found the man deceased on the front porch. There was an aluminum baseball bat near the man’s body and he was wearing gloves.”

Though the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 9-0 in favor of the NRA's argument in NRA v. Vullo, the decision sent the case back to a lower court, which ruled the offending government official had "qualified immunity." As a result, this case is ongoing.

Policing Should Not Be A Political Issue

Crime is a complicated topic, but there is an extremely simple rule that must be observed before one can begin to fight it effectively: One must genuinely wish to deal with the problem. Without such an elementary ambition, no amount of legislation, activity, taxpayer money or speechmaking will make the slightest bit of difference.
