Anti-Gun Advocate Says Women Too Weak To Use Guns In Self-Defense

posted on August 27, 2015

On the Aug. 23 airing of Al Jazeera’s “Third Rail,” Florida state Rep. Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda, Leah Gunn Barrett and Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke debated campus safety. During the debate, Gunn Barrett, executive director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence, suggested women are too weak to be allowed to carry guns for self-defense on college campuses.

She made this suggestion even though fellow guest Rehwinkel Vasilinda was the victim of attempted rape while in college, which she thwarted with the gun her father gave her for self-defense.

When the “Third Rail” host asked moments later if there is a right to self-defense with a weapon, she admitted that there is such a right in the home, but only because the Supreme Court has ruled so. Apparently to Leah Gunn Barrett, women are out of luck because even if they have a right to defend themselves, they are so weak that a firearm is likely to be turned against them.
