Armed Citizen Stops Utah Carjacking

posted on May 4, 2015

An alert right-to-carry permit holder is being called a hero in Utah. According to media reports, five suspects fled a reported fight in a vehicle, but struck a curb. While four continued to flee on foot, the fifth decided to take an easier way out.

According to Captain Ned Jackson of the Orem Police Department, that person pulled a screaming woman out of a nearby Mercedes and readied to drive away, when a 31-year-old shopper confronted him. “Our citizen goes up at gun point, has him get out of the car, the guy gets out of the car,” Capt. Jackson said. “The suspect lunged and tried to get the gun from him, so at that point he’s trying to protect himself and shoots the gentleman.”

The carjacker suffered a single gunshot wound and later died at a nearby hospital.
