The home intruder was asked to leave. He refused. The homeowner armed himself, then asked again.

This scene unfolded at a residence in Sheridan, Wyo. A couple and two children were asleep after midnight, but were suddenly awakened by the sound of someone breaking into the house. The intruder, whom the couple did not know, was told to leave peacefully.

However, when the home invader kept advancing, the man of the house armed himself with a shotgun. After another warning, “The male resident felt threatened after exhausting efforts to talk the man into leaving the residence,” according to Sheridan police. The man shot the intruder once in the chest, and a short time later he was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The couple and the children were unharmed. Investigators responding to the shooting determined the intruder had entered the home through an unlocked door.

Policing Should Not Be A Political Issue

Crime is a complicated topic, but there is an extremely simple rule that must be observed before one can begin to fight it effectively: One must genuinely wish to deal with the problem. Without such an elementary ambition, no amount of legislation, activity, taxpayer money or speechmaking will make the slightest bit of difference.
