A Thursday night home invasion in Oklahoma City resulted in an armed homeowner using his firearm to protect himself and his family.

According to police reports, the family was asleep at about 3 a.m. when they heard loud banging on the door, like someone was trying to kick it down. By the time the homeowner was able to retrieve his shotgun, the man had busted through the door.

After a struggle for the gun, the homeowner fired one shot, hitting the invader. The suspect, Vernon Wyatt, was transported to the hospital for treatment of his wounds, and will be taken into police custody upon release.
