Democrat presidential candidate and self-proclaimed “socialist” U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, D-Vt., shut down a gun-control activist who questioned one of his pro-gun votes at a policy forum in Arlington, Va., on Thursday night.

Honora Laszlo, who volunteers for Michael Bloomberg’s Moms Demand Action gun-control group, asked Sanders why he’d voted for the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, to which Sanders replied, “If somebody has a gun and somebody steals that gun and they shoot somebody with it, do you really think it makes sense to blame the manufacturer of that weapon? If somebody sells you a baseball bat and somebody hits you over the head with it, you’re not going to sue the baseball bat manufacturer.”

“I don’t apologize for that vote,” Sanders said. “I come from a state that has virtually no gun control, and it turns out one of the safest states in the country.”
