Biden’s Office of Anti-Freedom Activists

It’s no secret that gun-control groups have long had the ear of those in the Biden administration, but President Joe Biden (D) has now taken things a step further by creating a federal office for gun-control groups, funded by taxpayer dollars, to implement his anti-freedom agenda.

“[T]he Office of Gun Violence Prevention along with the rest of my administration will continue to do everything it can to combat the epidemic of gun violence,” read a statement from Biden on the establishment of an official gun-control office in the White House.

The phrase “gun violence” and labeling such as an “epidemic,” as Biden often says, are carefully selected to sell the idea that firearms and the ownership of them are some sort of sickness. Millions of NRA members and countless law-abiding Americans know, of course, that firearms are inanimate objects incapable of thought or action. Simply put, they are tools.

Moreover, an epidemic has, in common usage, long been used to refer to the spread of an infectious disease, but many anti-Second Amendment activists have adopted the tactic of misapplying the term “epidemic” to guns.

The truth is that firearms ownership is not a disease, regardless of what Biden says. By positioning firearms as the problem, this administration is seeking to push its agenda at the expense of law-abiding Americans—meanwhile, they are happy to once again discount the criminal element within society.

This office will be overseen by none other than Vice President Kamala Harris (D), whom Biden has tipped to be the “leading voice” on this topic. “The new Office of Gun Violence Prevention will play a critical role in implementing President Biden’s and my efforts to reduce violence to the fullest extent under the law, while also engaging and encouraging congressional leaders, state and local leaders and advocates to come together to build upon the meaningful progress that we have made,” said Harris.

Joining her as the office’s director is longtime Biden aide Stefanie Feldman, who led the policy efforts for the 2020 Biden/Harris ticket and routinely voiced her animus for constitutionally protected freedoms on X (known as Twitter at the time). The office will also include Robert Wilcox, a former senior director of the anti-gun group Everytown for Gun Safety, as deputy director. Wilcox also worked for the gun-control group Brady.

“[W]hat is clear is that Biden is determined to use the White House’s own (apparently vast) budget to employ professional gun-control advocates at the public’s expense,” reported the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (ILA).

This Orwellian-named office will, as the White House noted, “focus on implementing executive and legislative action, including historic Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA) signed by President Biden, to end the scourge of gun violence in America.” Predictably, the BSCA, which the NRA warned could, and likely would, be abused, has already been used by the Biden administration in dishonest ways. This includes attempting to strip elementary and secondary schools of federal funding if they had the audacity to keep their successful and popular archery and hunting programs. At the time of publication, this policy was thankfully rebuked by Congress.

In reality, the purpose of this office “is to employ professional gun-control advocates and amplify their propaganda and agenda with taxpayer dollars,” wrote NRA-ILA.

And this office’s establishment is just another of the Biden administration’s moves to curtail your rights. In a press release announcing this office, Biden signaled his intent to “push for congress to do more,” and once again listed off his anti-Second Amendment wish list. This included his desire to ban constitutionally protected, commonly owned rifles. Other items noted were bans on what he deems to be “high-capacity” magazines, mandating so-called “universal” background checks and ambiguous “safe-storage” laws and the repeal of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act.

“We’re not stopping here. Again, it’s—I’ll say it again. I’m not going to be quiet until we get it done. It’s time again to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. If you need 80 shots in a magazine, you shouldn’t own a gun,” said Biden.

What the president doesn’t mention is that he has called for bans on magazines holding more than 10 rounds. Moreover, a congressionally- mandated study found that the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons ban that Biden so often touts—and voted in favor of nearly 30 years ago when he was a U.S. senator—had little, if any, effect on crime rates throughout the country before it sunset in 2004.

Despite Biden’s repeated proclamations that “the majority of Americans” support his agenda, the data shows an entirely different picture. Background checks for the purchase of a firearm have exceeded one million per month for 50 straight months, according to data from the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Constitutional carry has also spread throughout more than half the country in recent years, even though Biden and company continue to insist that their anti-freedom efforts are what Americans want. Polls also show that a majority of Americans are against banning common and lawfully owned semi-automatic rifles.

Biden’s stated goals also completely ignore the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008), which affirmed that firearms in “common use” are constitutionally protected. With data showing that more than 24 million of these rifles are in circulation, it’s clear that these firearms are in common use and are therefore protected by the U.S. Constitution.

“The White House Office of so-called ‘Gun Violence Prevention’ is yet another distraction, crafted to divert America’s and the media’s gaze from the Biden crime wave and their soft-on-crime policies destroying our communities. Instead of confronting the real challenges and holding accountable the DAs who turn a blind eye to crime, this administration unfairly targets law-abiding citizens exercising their Second Amendment rights. It’s becoming increasingly clear that this office is a puppeteering maneuver by the gun-control lobby, designed to dismantle our Second Amendment rights,” said NRA-ILA Executive Director Randy Kozuch in a statement.
