The second Republican Party presidential primary debate will be held tonight, and though the first largely skipped over anything Second Amendment-related, it is our hope that the same will not continue.
In that first debate, former Vice President Mike Pence and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis both acknowledged the Left’s push to defund law enforcement and the presence of George Soros-funded district attorneys who fail to hold criminals accountable. And it was former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie who said, “We need to make sure these criminals understand—the laws apply to everybody,” before specifically referencing Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, who allegedly lied in the process of purchasing a firearm.
However, much has changed in the month since that first debate, and this issue needs to have a spotlight shone on it, not passing mentions. Presumptive Democratic Party nominee Joe Biden recently created what his administration dubbed as the “Office of Gun Violence Prevention,” in a move that the NRA Institute for Legislative Action said is designed “to use the White House’s own (apparently vast) budget to employ professional gun-control advocates at the public’s expense.”
Biden also issued an executive action that has led to his Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to target law-abiding gun owners with a proposed rule since the first debate just over a month ago. He has also said that Vice President Kamala Harris (D) will be the “leading voice” on this issue in the pair’s campaign for a second term.
As the pair have made this a central issue in their campaign, it should be addressed in some form. Here’s what should be asked at tonight’s debate:
The Biden administration recently created the “Office of Gun Violence Prevention,” but its policies consistently blame law-abiding gun owners for a crime surge even as this administration simultaneously praises soft-on-crime district attorneys and Kamala Harris even promoted funds to bail out violent rioters. If elected, what would you do with this newly created office going forward? And how would you address the crime rates in our nation?
As America’s 1st Freedom reported, Biden recently created this Orwellian-named office. It utilizes taxpayer dollars to hire employees from notable gun-control groups in pursuit of Biden’s anti-freedom agenda. The candidates on stage would be wise to address what they would do with this partisan office.
Beyond that, it is important to see what plans the candidates have for addressing the rising crime rates other than punishing law-abiding Americans, as Biden repeatedly shows is his preferred route.
These candidates could be asked: President Biden’s recent executive action, speeches, and press releases have reiterated his desire to punish law-abiding Americans by implementing bans on so-called “assault weapons,” bans on “high-capacity” magazines, repealing the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), and more. On these issues, where do you stand and what would you call on Congress to do differently?
Polls have shown that a majority of Americans don’t actually support these bans and, since Biden took office, firearms ownership has skyrocketed and constitutional carry has spread throughout more than half of the country. Those on stage should make it clear what they will do to advance freedom for law-abiding Americans, not curtail it.
Of course, there is only so much time for each issue in a single debate, but with that said, the Biden-Harris ticket has made gun control a central component of its campaign, so it is important to hear what these candidates would do.
