The NRA expressed support for President Donald Trump’s announcement this week that he wants Brett Kavanaugh to be the next Supreme Court justice.

“President Trump has made another outstanding choice in nominating Brett Kavanaugh for the U.S. Supreme Court. He has an impressive record that demonstrates his strong support for the Second Amendment,” said Chris W. Cox, Executive Director of NRA-ILA. “We urge the Senate to swiftly confirm Judge Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court, just as it confirmed him to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.”

Kavanaugh has a history of being an originalist—a jurist who believes in the Constitution. That approach toward the law should go a long way in helping to protect the Second Amendment and the rights of law-abiding gun owners.

As a member of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, Kavanaugh had one major ruling that showed his thinking closely parallels that of the late Justice Antonin Scalia with respect to the Heller decision, one of the most important rulings for gun owners in recent times
