California Antis Badgering School District To Drop Arming Teachers

posted on December 22, 2016

Last month, a school district in Bakersfield, Calif., voted to allow teachers and staffers who hold concealed-carry permits to bring guns onto campuses. “This is a step toward making our campuses safer for students and staff,” said Phillip Peters of the Kern High School District Board of Trustees.

Now, anti-gun advocacy groups are attacking that decision and are pressuring the district to reverse their ruling. A coalition consisting of groups like Building Healthy Communities and California State University Bakersfield Center for Social Justice ran a full-page ad pleading for a reversal and have started an online petition that bemoans “these dangerous policies which threaten to harm children.”

“It just creates a terrible school climate, you know, where children potentially may be entering classrooms in which their teachers have guns,” said Gerald Cantu of the Dolores Huerta Foundation.

Cantu doesn’t go on to explain, however, how disarming teachers and leaving them defenseless would help children be safer in the face of a madman intent on evil.
