Several months ago, Detroit Chief of Police James Craig urged citizens to get their concealed-carry permits, stating, “The message should be that, you know, people are going to protect themselves. They’re tired, they’ve been dealing with this epidemic of violence, they’re afraid and they have a right to protect themselves.” Evidently at least one person took that message to heart, and an armed thug is now deceased.

The Detroit News is reporting that the CCP holder pulled into a gas station around midnight on Saturday when two masked suspects appeared from behind the store and opened fire. The driver of the car returned fire, killing one of the two suspects, who was said to be in his “early 20s.” The other suspect escaped, and was described as “a black male wearing all black.”

There was no word on whether the second suspect was hit by gunfire, but police have labeled the shooting as self-defense.
