Want to learn how to improve your AR-15 shooting skills without traveling to Camp Perry in Ohio? No problem. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is taking its Small Arms Firing School (SAFS) and AR-15 Excellence-in-Competition rifle match on the road. First stop: the Washtenaw Sportsman’s Club in Ypsilanti, Mich., on Aug. 26.

“Our CMP leadership team would like us to take our hallmark entry-level marksmanship course and match on the road to venues across the U.S.,” said CMP’s Programs Chief Christie Sewell.  “It will give many people an opportunity to participate in an effective CMP event closer to their home.”

This is the first time the CMP has offered its SAFS program in which the course wasn’t being taught in conjunction with National Matches at Camp Perry or one of its regular travel events in Oklahoma, North Carolina, Alabama, Vermont and Arizona.

The CMP’s traveling course will offer training, which hones marksmanship skills from the prone, sitting and standing positions, followed by a four-stage Excellence-in-Competition match. It is an official offering, so participants can earn “leg” points.

The day-long event starts with classroom instruction at 8 a.m. Participants move to range around noon, and the match should start at 12:30 p.m. Cost is $95, or $85 for juniors.

The number of participants is limited to 40. Register for the event here or call Amy Cantu at (419) 635-2141, Ext. 602.

The NRA is Still Fighting for Our First Amendment Freedoms

Though the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 9-0 in favor of the NRA's argument in NRA v. Vullo, the decision sent the case back to a lower court, which ruled the offending government official had "qualified immunity." As a result, this case is ongoing.

Policing Should Not Be A Political Issue

Crime is a complicated topic, but there is an extremely simple rule that must be observed before one can begin to fight it effectively: One must genuinely wish to deal with the problem. Without such an elementary ambition, no amount of legislation, activity, taxpayer money or speechmaking will make the slightest bit of difference.
