According to a report from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), the rate of violent incidents in schools decreased notably between the 2009-10 and 2013-14 school years. The percentage of U.S. public schools that reported at least one act of violence dropped from 74 to 65 percent, while the rate of incidents per 1,000 students fell from 25 to 15. The main cause in the decrease is believed to be an increase in security measures such as cameras in schools.

For all the handwringing of the anti-gun lobby, and the panic brought on by mass-shooting atrocities, the truth is that our children are getting safer. And we can’t wait to see what these statistics look like in a few years, once the arming of some school staff in many states has been around for long enough to be analyzed. We have a feeling that the downward trajectory of those numbers will only get steeper.
