The proposal that would have likely wiped out every gun dealer in California is off the table. AB 2459, authored by Democrat Assembly member Kevin McCarty of Sacramento, would have required gun dealers to record video purchases, forced them to carry at least $1 million in insurance, and banned firearms dealers from doing business out of their homes. We wrote about this measure in detail last month.

The bill was scheduled for its first hearing in the Public Safety Committee Tuesday until McCarty pulled it without explanation. But should he reintroduce the measure at a later date, the opposition is ready.

“We have spent a lot of time and energy building a coalition against the measure,” said Craig J. DeLuz, director of communications for the Firearms Policy Coalition. “So far, the ACLU and the CA Pawn Brokers were opposing it. And your gun bill has to be pretty bad for the ACLU to oppose it.”
