A Florida homeowner in a quiet Oviedo neighborhood heard someone trying to open the door of his house in an attempted break-in. So the owner greeted the intruder outside—with his gun.

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office is reporting the homeowner stepped outside to confront the would-be burglar, who ran across the street to hide in the bushes. However, the suspect suddenly charged from the shrubs, forcing the homeowner to push him away and fire his gun, hitting the intruder several times. The accused burglar was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The neighbor from across the street heard the shots explode in the peaceful community, telling WKMG News 6 he thought they were fireworks. “It didn't sound like a gun. It sounded like a cannon went off a couple times.” Later, the neighbor added, “I believe you ought to be able to shoot and take your own action to protect your property.”
