In response to the national student walkout that gun control advocates staged, about 75 high schoolers in Brevard County, Fla., took a stand in support of their Second Amendment rights. According to FloridaToday.com, the students gathered outside and carried the American flag as well as pro-Second Amendment signs to demonstrate their support of civil rights at Rockledge High School.

Lasting roughly 20 minutes, the students then peacefully returned to their classrooms. Junior Anna Delaney and sophomore Chloe Deaton organized the event. Deaton explained to Florida Today the purpose of the demonstration was to “clear misconceptions about the Second Amendment.” Above all, it was to ensure all voices and opinions are heard, not just those on the left.

Students across the country at more than 2,800 schools staged walkouts on March 14 as the National Student Walkout. The organized demonstrations were in response to the Parkland, Fla., shooting that took place at Marjory Stoneman  Douglas High School.

Students at Rockledge explained they did not support a particular political ideology, however, several were upset at the passage of the Safety Act, which—among other things—raised the legal age to purchase long guns from a licensed dealer to 21 from 18. The NRA is challenging the law.

Policing Should Not Be A Political Issue

Crime is a complicated topic, but there is an extremely simple rule that must be observed before one can begin to fight it effectively: One must genuinely wish to deal with the problem. Without such an elementary ambition, no amount of legislation, activity, taxpayer money or speechmaking will make the slightest bit of difference.
