Former NPR Head Says Media Don’t Understand Gun Issue

posted on October 24, 2017

We’ve often said that if liberal elites spent some time in the America that you and I hold dear, they’d soon recognize the folly of their anti-gun ways. According to a New York Post op-ed penned by former National Public Radio CEO Ken Stern, we were spot-on.

Stern recently spent a year among evangelicals, NASCAR enthusiasts, political conservatives and gun owners. And after picking up a gun for the first time for a hog hunt in Texas, Stern found none of his new hunting buddies “fit the lazy caricature of the angry NRA member. Rather, they saw guns as both a shared sport and as a necessary means to protect their families …” Having made a genuine attempt to see the world through the eyes of Americans in the heartland, Stern discovered the extent to which the “media is obsessed with the gun-control side and gives only a scant, mostly negative, recognition to the gun-rights side.”

Describing how he benefitted from the experience, Stern encourages his peers in the media to “get out and be part of the conversations that take place in churches and community centers and town halls.” To read the full article, click here.
