The sheriff’s office in Madison County, Tenn., now has a new Eddie Eagle mascot costume, thanks to a $2,800 donation from the Friends of NRA Forked Deer Chapter. The gift was presented last week to Sheriff John Mehr and Sgt. Allen Castleman.

The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program is an NRA initiative that was created in 1988 to teach children four simple, easy-to-remember steps so they know what to do if they ever come across a gun. Although Eddie has evolved over the years, his mission remains the same—to remind children that if they see a gun, “Stop! Don’t touch. Run away. Tell a grown-up.”

Sgt. Castleman and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office have been offering the Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program to young students for what will be their seventh year. In that time, they’ve taught more than 6,000 children the importance of firearm safety precautions.

No More Tax on Suppressors!

When President Donald Trump (R) signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB) into law on July 4, 2025, he scheduled the end of the burdensome $200 excise tax imposed on suppressors, short-barreled firearms and “any other weapons” as defined by the National Firearms Act (NFA).
