Two men attempting to rob a DeKalb County, Ga., home were shot by the homeowner, 28-year-old Timoteo Hernandez, Wednesday evening. Police arrived on scene to find one of the suspects deceased, wearing all black and laying face down in a neighboring yard. Police found a security badge and zip ties on his body and believe the suspects may have been trying to impersonate police officers or security guards. “In true home invasions, they will attempt to portray themselves as police officers,” said Captain Nicole Rutland.

The second suspect was captured after he fled in a car with a woman and ended up at a nearby restaurant. When police and EMS arrived, they found him lying down with an open chest wound, the report said. He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, but later died. Hernandez’s mother, 51-year-old Ramona Derossette, suffered a heart attack as a result of the incident and was taken to Emory Hospital.
