A Massachusetts good guy with a gun shot and killed a man on a crazed stabbing rampage in a local mall on Tuesday.

According to local police, the man, whose family said he had been battling depression, started by breaking into a home and stabbing two women. After fleeing that scene, he crashed his car into a mall in Taunton, Mass., exited the vehicle and began stabbing people there and in a nearby restaurant.

The good guy with a gun—in this case an off-duty sheriff’s deputy—pulled his gun and shot the attacker, ending the assault. According to the Bristol County district attorney, the attacker stabbed three people in the mall and two people in a nearby restaurant before the attack ended.
