Good Guys With Guns Stop Prom Shooting

posted on April 26, 2016

Jakob Wagner was carrying a rifle with enough ammo to cause a tragedy when he arrived at the Antigo High School prom at about 11 p.m. As he made his way toward the crowd of revelers, he opened fire, injuring a couple who was leaving the northern Wisconsin school

Fortunately, the swift action of police and school staff prevented what could have been an unimaginable disaster. The school district released a statement to WSAW-TV, noting, “Because Antigo police were stationed to patrol the parking lot, they responded immediately, and an officer returned fire, severely wounding the shooter.”

A school administrator said he does not believe Wagner, a former Antigo student, targeted the two wounded students specifically; rather, he planned to start shooting randomly. Police say Wagner acted alone and died the following day. The girl was treated and released from the hospital, while the male had surgery for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
