All of those in the media talking about the so-called “Trump Slump” on gun sales—bragging that sales of firearms are falling precipitously since the election—need some salt and pepper to sprinkle on those words, as they’ll need to eat them now.

The National Instant Background Check System (NICS) conducted 1.94 million background checks last month, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigations. That’s the most for any month of May since records have been kept, and about 70,000 more than the previous record set last May.

While the number of NICS checks during a given period isn’t a one-for-one representation of the numbers of guns sold, it is one of the strongest indicators of gun sales. Now the big question: Will those in the so-called “mainstream” media report the record sales, or simply ignore it?
