Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton had a ready-made answer for a young boy’s question about guns at a Portsmouth, N.H., town hall on Dec. 29. The question, read from an index card, was, “When you become president, what is your plan to connect mental health problems and guns to make sure that me, my brothers, and my friends are safe from violence at school?” Hillary took this serendipitous opportunity to outline seven gun-control laws that she would enact if elected.

“I’m going to do everything I can do, and I’m never going to stop trying,” she said. Her proposed laws would enact “comprehensive” background checks; close the so-called gun show, online and Charleston “loopholes”; add no-fly list to background checks; allow gun makers to be sued for gun crime; and allow gun sellers to also be sued for gun crime. She then told the crowd, “I know we can do this in a constitutionally consistent way.”

We’d be hard pressed to understand how gutting the Second Amendment meets that description.
