For collectors, hunters or shooters willing to wait half a decade, the Hoenig Rotary Round Action double rifle represents a unique opportunity to acquire an incredibly well-built gun—an experience that only four other individuals will be able to share each year. Manufactured deep in Idaho, these over-under rifles are hand-built to exacting standards, and each precision-engineered hinged action is embellished with English scroll engraving and mounted in a finely marbled walnut stock. Designer George Hoenig worked at Pachmayr and Weatherby before offering his S7 tool steel masterpiece in the early 1990s. This .225-chambered example was one acquired by publishing grand master Robert E. Petersen and is currently on exhibit in the NRA’s Petersen Gallery.

The NRA National Firearms Museum at NRA Headquarters in Fairfax, Va.; the NRA National Sporting Arms Museum at Bass Pro Shops in Springfield, Mo.; and the Frank Brownell Museum of the Southwest at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, N.M.; each have fine selections of historic arms on display. Admission to each is free, and donations are gratefully accepted. For more information, visit nramuseums.com, phone (703) 267-1600 or email [email protected].
