House GOP Ties ATF Funding To Reversal Of Gun Regulations

posted on July 22, 2017

By a 30-to-21 vote on Thursday, the House Appropriations Committee passed a fiscal year 2018 budget that attempts to undo some of the Obama administration’s firearms regulations. As reported by Breitbart, the Commerce and Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill would require the reversal of certain gun restrictions before the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) would receive funding.

“The bill disallows the use of federal funds for the Obama-era multiple long sales reporting regulation, implemented in the wake of the Obama DOJ’s Fast & Furious gun-running scheme,” Breitbart notes. “The reporting requirement for multiple long sales was the only gun control the Obama administration was able to put in place as a result of Fast and Furious, and it is defunded in the Appropriations bill.”

The bill also blocks funding for the NRA-opposed Arms Trade Treaty. In 2013, Obama’s Secretary of State John Kerry signed the treaty, but the Republican-controlled Senate refused to ratify it. Now, this bill would deny any funding for that treaty.
