Those fortunate to have been at the “Freedom Experience” concert at the NRA Annual Meeting & Exhibits last April in Atlanta, Ga., where they were exposed to Big & Rich’s country music blended with rock, pop and, on this night, insightful commentary on the origins and importance of our right to keep and bear arms, will not be surprised with John Rich’s latest song.

The song is “The Righteous Hunter.” It’s a narrative about evil looking for victims “around this town undercover” when it runs into the Righteous Hunter, an armed citizen with children to protect. The song’s refrain is: “Better give your soul to Jesus while I get my gun.”

Rich—who country fans will remember as a former member of Lonestar—partners with “Big Kenny” (Kenny Alphin) to write music and perform as Big & Rich. But this one is a single from Rich.

Rich, of course, has publicly identified as a lifelong member of NRA and has spoken out in support of the Second Amendment. He explained his views on our freedom in a video with the NRA.

Rich is known for a lot of country hits, such as “Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)” and “Lost in This Moment,” which reached No. 1 on country charts.

In a long-format interview with Tucker Carlson, Rich explained that, whether we realize it or not, we are grappling with evil—criminals with bad intentions and more—in this nation and in this world. He says the fact that he talks about, and writes songs about, this struggle has forced him to walk a path outside of the today’s music industry as he brings his message, in the form of powerful songs, to we the people.

“It seems like I’ve been an NRA member all my life, and I've learned the single greatest thing you can do as a member is to encourage other like-minded patriots to join the NRA family,” said Rich in the NRA video.
