A pointless bill targeting law-abiding gun owners has passed in the Kansas Senate by a 24-16 vote. HB 2278 would make it illegal to carry a self-defense firearm into a state or municipal-owned medical care facility, including the Kansas University Hospital. It would also outlaw carry in community health centers and state or municipal-owned adult care homes.

This measure would leave law-abiding citizens disarmed and at the mercy of criminals in places like dimly lit parking garages. But perhaps even more dangerous is the fact that it would risk making criminals out of legal gun owners at a time when they are at their most vulnerable—when they or a loved one are in need of emergency health care or elder care.

Use Your Power!

The bill will now head back to the Kansas House for a concurrence vote. It’s very important that you contact your state representative and Gov. Sam Brownback today and tell them that this bill will do nothing to stop crime, but would only target law-abiding gun owners. You can reach Gov. Brownback by calling (785) 296-3232, and you can write your representative by clicking here.
