A Las Vegas, Nev., man used his legally owned firearm to protect himself from an armed intruder early last Tuesday morning.

According to local media reports, the man was in bed about 6:30 a.m. when another man, whom he believed was a neighbor, came into his apartment with a knife. The resident fired a single shot, hitting the intruder in the chest and killing him.

Police said a knife was found at the residence. While the investigation is ongoing, the shooting is being considered self-defense by local law-enforcement officials.
