The call is growing louder each day. Across America, law enforcement officers are encouraging law-abiding citizens to arm themselves. As Polk County, Fla., Sheriff Grady Judd notes, “It’s more important to have a gun in your hand than a cop on the phone.”

More Florida sheriffs carry the same message. “If you are certified to carry a gun, I would like to encourage you to do so,” says Chris Blair of Marion County. In Brevard County, Wayne Ivey reminded citizens they must be the “first line of defense.”

Law enforcement officials in Oklahoma aren’t just encouraging an armed citizenry, they’re putting their time and money behind it. Garvin County Sheriff Larry Rhodes and Creek County Sheriff John Davis have waived sheriff’s fees associated with getting a gun license, while Davis also extended his office’s weekend hours.

These professionals are voicing what we’ve always warned, that your safety is your responsibility.
