Apparently not satisfied with California’s current ban on the sale, purchase, manufacture, import or transfer of magazines capable of accepting more than 10 rounds, the Los Angeles City Council is now considering an outright ban on their possession—even by owners “grandfathered” by owning them before Jan. 1, 2000.

Under the proposed new ban on possession, pushed by Democrat Councilman Paul Krekorian, current owners of these standard-capacity magazines would have 60 days to either remove them from the city, surrender them to the Los Angeles Police Department to be destroyed, or sell or transfer them in accordance with state law.

Instead of passing new gun bans that criminals ignore and prosecutors neglect—while leaving good, law-abiding citizens disarmed—maybe Los Angeles should improve its shameful record as one of the worst cities in the U.S. when it comes to enforcing existing federal gun laws against criminals.
