In news that is sure to disturb both gun owners and hip hop fans, Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley appeared on the satirical interview series “Off the Record” and rapped about his hatred of guns. “The NRA hates me ‘cause I don’t like guns,” he recited from a paper the hosts gave him. “Guns, guns, guns, I don’t like them guns.”

That’s approximately the same level of nuance with which he has approached gun issues throughout his career: O’Malley appears to be basing his entire campaign at this point on his opposition to the NRA. As his increasingly dismal polling scores indicate, citing his extreme distance from a popular civil-rights organization may not have been the brightest strategy. But with a little practice, maybe he has a future in the music industry.
