Mother Files Suit Over Shirt

posted on May 8, 2015

After her son was arrested for refusing school officials’ demands that he remove an NRA t-shirt reading “Protect Your Right”—or face suspension—a West Virginia mother has filed a federal lawsuit against the school board, charging them with violating the boy’s First and 14th Amendment civil rights.

In an irony worthy of Orwell, while the student has merely asked that his First Amendment right to wear a t-shirt urging readers to “protect your right” be respected, the “public servants” arrayed against him have done all in their power to deny those rights and silence that message—from police who charged the boy with “obstruction of an officer” for refusing to stop talking, to prosecutors who tried to impose a gag order to prevent him and his family from speaking to the press, to court officials who threatened to arrest a reporter covering the case.

Let freedom ring.
