As we watched the horror unfold in Brussels—terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of 31 and injured 270 more—one political pundit was quick to cite … the ease of getting guns?

Steve Clemons, Washington editor-at-large for The Atlantic, called into MSNBC from Brussels on Tuesday to discuss the bombings that rocked the city. When asked why Brussels was chosen as the epicenter, Clemons’ nonsensical off-topic response included a remark that, “there is an ease of getting guns here.”

The Islamic State had just carried out terrorist attacks using four homemade bombs that killed dozens and injured hundreds more—yet Clemons deduces that guns are to blame.

He’s the same writer who in a 2011 article on the Tea Party, pointed to their support of “… guns and religion—or, in other words, fear and intolerance.” The only thing that is abundantly clear is that Clemons understands neither of the two.
