Nebraska pre-emption legislation, in the form of Legislative Bill 68, has advanced to the floor of the legislature after being approved in the Government, Military, and Veteran Affairs Committee late last week.

Because some local firearm ordinances are more restrictive than state law, Nebraskans are currently at risk for inadvertently violating the law as they travel through the state. The pre-emption legislation would help protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners by eliminating the danger of running afoul of local ordinances.

According to NRA-ILA, Nebraska law allows each senator to designate one bill per year as their priority, ensuring it will be heard in the Legislature. State Sen. Mike Hilgers, author of LB 68, has designated that measure as his priority bill.

Use Your Power!

Nebraska gun owners are encouraged to contact their state senator and ask him or her to co-sponsor and support this important measure. You can do so by clicking here.

No More Tax on Suppressors!

When President Donald Trump (R) signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB) into law on July 4, 2025, he scheduled the end of the burdensome $200 excise tax imposed on suppressors, short-barreled firearms and “any other weapons” as defined by the National Firearms Act (NFA). That end came on January 1.
