Although gun bills are likely to be vetoed by Gov. Chris Sununu, New Hampshire Democrats are trying to ride the wave of supposed anti-gun sentiment. Before the session even opened, three gun control bills have been publicized.

Two of those have already been drafted. One would allow individual school districts to designate campuses as gun-free zones. Saying guns are outlawed does nothing besides letting those with criminal intent know they will face little opposition by attacking there. State Sen. Martha Hennessey had attempted to introduce legislation last year after the Parkland, Fla., school shooting, but was unsuccessful in passing it.

A second bill, HB 109 aims to close the “gun show loophole” by requiring background checks for all commercial firearm sales. The law would also include gun shows.

The third bill, a draft of which hasn’t been released, would call for a waiting period when someone buys a firearm

Citizens of New Hampshire will need to stay vigilant as they have a tough battle on their hands as the incoming class of lawmakers attempt to enact legislation that would have no tangible benefit for the law-abiding citizenry.
