N.M. Armed Citizen Stops Daughter’s Abusive Ex-Boyfriend

posted on June 29, 2016

After he punched her in the head during an altercation in mid-April, 40-year-old Lee Brandenburg’s girlfriend left him and moved herself and her daughter in with her 76-year-old father for safety. But just after midnight Thursday morning, Brandenburg—who police say has a long history of threatening the woman—decided to carry out his violent plans.

He had succeeded in breaking out the home’s living room window, but the noise caught the attention of the woman’s father, who retrieved his firearm and went to investigate. Fearing for the family’s safety after finding Brandenburg armed with a gun and attempting to enter the home, the woman’s father fired several shots at Brandenburg’s legs and called 911.

According to Albuquerque Police Department spokesman Tanner Tixier, Brandenburg was transported to a local hospital in stable condition, and is expected to face aggravated burglary and battery charges. The homeowner, who acted in self-defense, will not face any charges.
