California’s strict gun-control laws didn’t affect the terrorists who killed 14 people in San Bernardino last week, but that’s not stopping Oakland city leaders from attempting to institute even more restrictions—laws that only the law-abiding would obey.

Oakland Vice Mayor Rebecca Kaplan is pushing proposals to mandate that gun owners and law enforcement who leave a firearm in a vehicle lock it up; require gun owners to secure their guns at home when not in use; and ban magazines holding more than 10 rounds.

Kaplan said, “We must take action,” referencing the San Bernardino attack, yet none of the proposals would have stopped that rampage. The two storage provisions weren’t even a consideration, and there is already a statewide ban on so-called “high-capacity” magazines. Plus, who really believes that terrorists—who already broke a laundry list of dozens of laws by planning and undertaking a murderous attack—would care what additional restrictions Oakland might place on law-abiding gun owners?

No More Tax on Suppressors!

When President Donald Trump (R) signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB) into law on July 4, 2025, he scheduled the end of the burdensome $200 excise tax imposed on suppressors, short-barreled firearms and “any other weapons” as defined by the National Firearms Act (NFA). That end came on January 1.

Armed Citizens are the “Rugged Individualists” Mamdani Despises

In his inauguration speech as the new mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani said, behind his characteristically easy smile, “We will replace the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.”

Conscientious Carry

While going about armed, you need to fit into society responsibly and politely. Here’s how.
