Two men come to your back door late at night, saying they’re having car trouble and need to use the phone. Many in this position, especially those with children, would take the view that it’s better to be safe than sorry.

However, Jessica and Brandon Robinson were kind enough to let one of the men make a call. As they were leaving, one of the suspects—Allen Thompson—hit Brandon over the head with a gun and pushed his way into the apartment, cornering Jessica in the kitchen. The two robbers stole over $1,000, then headed to the back bedroom where Jessica’s two children were asleep.

That prompted Jessica to snap into action, grabbing her hidden firearm. After shooting one of the intruders, both suspects immediately fled, firing back as they scrambled. They were quickly arrested at a nearby hospital. As Jessica later told Columbus ABC 6, “I know there’s a good chance we’d be dead right now if I hadn’t grabbed my gun.”
