Michigan Republicans are vowing to put a stop to a recently introduced measure that would ban common firearms and normal-size magazines.

House Bill 5996 would ban the sale and ownership of commonly owned semi-automatic rifles and handguns, as well as the use of detachable magazines capable of containing more than 10 rounds.

"It's just so flawed," Republican state Sen. Ken Horn told Mlive.com. “It would take honest law-abiding citizens and turn them automatically into criminals. It does nothing directly to stop the criminal element.”

Horn went on to explain how law-abiding gun owners are exasperated for always being blamed for criminal violence that doesn’t involve them. "Let's create an environment where honest, law-abiding citizens don't have to look over their shoulder every damn time something happens, then we can talk," he said.
