Fellow NRA members, this month I’m sending an important message to everyone who cherishes our way of life—vote. Once again, our right to bear arms, enshrined in the Second Amendment, is being challenged by those who know little or nothing about firearms or, worse, simply want to trample on the Constitution and everything that it stands for. Training programs, informal competitions, sanctioned matches, collecting historical pieces and even being able to visit a public range will become distant memories without the right elected officials in office. In order to protect everything that we enjoy about firearms, it’s absolutely critical that everyone reading this is not only registered to vote, but also informed about pro-gun candidates worthy of receiving their votes.

While NRA was formed more than 150 years ago to promote marksmanship, the Association now boasts a wide variety of programs for competitive shooting, education, hunting, training and many other areas. These vital programs will collapse like dominoes if the anti-gun movement is successful in banning certain classes of firearms, limiting age of use, and other egregious restrictions on our right to lawfully own and use firearms.

It wasn’t long after the Supreme Court handed down its landmark decision in NYSRPA v. Bruen that gun-control advocates in the United States House of Representatives cranked up their assault on the civil liberties of Americans with the passage of H.R. 1808, titled “The Assault Weapons Ban of 2022.” Were it to become law, this wish list of draconian restrictions would ban very popular semi-automatic rifles and shotguns, along with the magazines that come with firearms commonly used for self-defense. Such a law would spell doom for many competitive shooters, recreational shooters and hunters. With vehement gun-grabber President Biden eager to sign such radical gun-control legislation, anti-gun members of Congress will certainly move ahead with the blanket gun ban they’ve been dreaming about for decades should they garner enough votes in the Senate.

I appeal to members of the National Rifle Association because no other group of people in America has the wherewithal to face the fierce political battle ahead. Make no mistake, the anti-freedom political machine and its puppets poisoning our nation with vicious anti-gun propaganda will shift into overdrive in the weeks before the midterm elections.

The choice is clear for NRA members: Vote for candidates who respect our constitutional freedoms. Any measure restricting lawful civilian gun ownership, including mislabeling common-use firearms with arbitrary terms such as “assault weapon,” is a step in the wrong direction for civil liberties. The Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners in the United States are under attack from powerful forces that are cranking out disinformation at an unprecedented rate. Ensure that our treasured traditions are passed on to the next generation—register to vote and get involved to put gun-friendly candidates in office this November. The future of our country depends on it.

Open Carry in California?

On January 2, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit struck down California’s ban on open carry in most of the state. The panel decision was 2-1.

Gun Skills | Press Check

Back when I was a new gun owner, I drilled in a habit of checking to be sure my firearm was unloaded, which was also a terrific opportunity to work on gun-handling skills like racking the action and activating the controls.

The Incomparable, Inimitable Phil Schreier—1962-2025

The NRA took a serious hit on December 28th. We lost Phil Schreier, director of NRA Museums. He did everything the doctors asked of him and then some. But it wasn’t enough. Leukemia won, and we all lost.

No More Tax on Suppressors!

When President Donald Trump (R) signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB) into law on July 4, 2025, he scheduled the end of the burdensome $200 excise tax imposed on suppressors, short-barreled firearms and “any other weapons” as defined by the National Firearms Act (NFA). That end came on January 1.

Armed Citizens are the “Rugged Individualists” Mamdani Despises

In his inauguration speech as the new mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani said, behind his characteristically easy smile, “We will replace the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.”

Conscientious Carry

While going about armed, you need to fit into society responsibly and politely. Here’s how.
