The U.S. Senate on Wednesday voted to confirm Rep. Ryan Zinke, R-Mont., as President Donald Trump’s interior secretary.

A former Navy SEAL, Zinke is a hunter and outdoorsman who understands the important role hunting and the shooting sports play in the stewardship of our nation’s public lands. In fact, during a confirmation hearing last month, Zinke said, “It was on these lands that my father [taught me] to hunt and fish, and the Boy Scouts taught me the principles [of] environmental stewardship and the importance of public access.”

Chris W. Cox, NRA-ILA executive director, praised Zinke’s confirmation.

“On behalf of our 5 million members, the National Rifle Association congratulates Secretary Ryan Zinke on his confirmation as the 52nd secretary of the interior,” Cox said. “The confirmation of an avid outdoorsman to lead the U.S. Department of the Interior marks the end of a hostile era towards hunters and sportsmen. The NRA looks forward to working with Secretary Zinke in the pursuit of true conservation that respects the rights of America’s outdoorsmen and women.”
