More than a thousand law-abiding gun owners are expected to gather next Wednesday for the annual Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day (iGOLD). The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a rally at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield, Ill., followed by a march to the Lincoln steps, where legislative leaders will address the group. Once speeches have concluded, the gun owners will file into the capitol building, where the state senators and representatives will be on hand to discuss Second Amendment issues.

iGOLD has been held in some form since the early 1990s, when it was organized to protest the state’s draconian firearms laws. Around 200 people showed up to that first event, a number that had grown to about 1,000 in 2015. This year, attendees say they will be marching against firearm/ammo taxes, gun-free zones, the use of terrorist watch-lists in determining who may purchase firearms, and firearm registration.
