Despite Senate Democrats’ attempts to stall President Donald Trump’s attorney general nominee, Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the nomination on Wednesday. The final vote was 11-9.

Sessions is a law-and-order nominee that has been strongly supported by the National Rifle Association for his stance on the right to keep and bear arms, as well as on prosecuting violent criminals to curb crime.

“The NRA and our 5 million members urge all senators to swiftly confirm Sen. Sessions as attorney general,” Chris W. Cox, NRA-ILA executive director, said after the committee vote. “Sen. Sessions will put the priority of the Justice Department back where it belongs—on prosecuting violent criminals and getting them off our streets. He strongly supports proven crime fighting programs like Project Exile. At the same time, he will protect the rights of law-abiding gun owners.”
