Within hours of the Chattanooga shooting, Shannon Watts, president of Michael Bloomberg’s “Moms Demand Action” gun-ban group, took to the airwaves and opinion pages to push more anti-gun laws. In one breath, she admitted, “we’re still learning the facts” about how the accused killer had obtained his firearms. Yet in the next breath, Watts twisted the few facts we did know to deceive the public into believing that some nonexistent “loophole” allowed Abdulazeez to get his guns.

To wit, Watts took the FBI’s statement that Abdulazeez had passed NICS background checks for “some” of the guns he possessed during the attack to suggest that some guns were obtained without a background check—when in fact the FBI said no such thing.

Whatever the case, Abdulazeez passed his background checks and was not a prohibited purchaser—meaning none of Watts’ proposed gun-ban “solutions” would have stopped him.
