If you’ve been asleep for years, what follows may come as a surprise: Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has hired Scott Hogan from the Minnesota chapter of Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety to manage her campaign in the Gopher State. Since Clinton, Bloomberg and Hogan are all outspoken fans of both a renewed “assault weapons” ban and prep-for-confiscation background checks, the shuffle is doubly no surprise.

At what point will left-leaning or independent shooters tire of being labeled “terrorizers” by their own candidate? When will Minnesotans recall the wiser words of another presidential contender and fellow Minnesotan: “But the right of citizens to bear arms is just one more guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against the tyranny which now appears remote, but which historically has proved to be always possible.” (Hubert H. Humphrey, Feb. 1960)

2016, we observe, would be a good time to start.
