Texas: Bloomberg’s Moms Demand ... A Clue

posted on May 22, 2015

Repetition may be the strongest form of emphasis. But as any child knows, if you repeat a word or phrase enough times, it becomes meaningless mumbling and nonsensical noise.

Texas lawmakers were reminded of that on Monday as a seemingly endless series of women—recruited by Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun astroturf operation Moms Demand Action—“testified” in opposition to legislation permitting licensed open carry, robotically reciting the same scripted remarks over and over again ad nauseum infinitum.

Shakespeare’s murderer Macbeth said of life, “It is a tale/Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury/Signifying nothing.” Our lives, our safety and our ability to defend both when no one else will—because no one else can—demand far more seriousness, and far greater intelligence and individual initiative, than the farcical display of unthinking rote repetition that Moms Demand Action presented in Austin.
